An Overview of Industrial Painting Techniques
April 1, 2020 1:31 am Leave your thoughtsAre preparing to take on a new industrial painting project? If so, it’s important you understand the various industrial painting techniques you’ll have the option to choose from. Here’s a quick overview of these methods, what they entail and what you should know to help you make your decision.
Rollers and brushes
If you want to get your industrial painting in Colorado done the old-fashioned way, you can always use rollers and brushes to complete the job.
Rollers are ideal for flat surfaces such as floors or walls, and are frequently used for cement and concrete screeds. You can easily and efficiently transfer paint to your surface. Depending on the kind of project, there are different types of rollers available to give you the best results. For example, you can use spiked rollers to level your coatings and remove any trapped air that might have otherwise been present.
Brushes are the most traditional method of industrial painting. They’re not going to be the most efficient method of painting in all cases, but brushes can be good for more detailed work in smaller areas. There are many different styles of brushes you can use, including brushes with different angles, shapes and bristle types. The smaller brushes give you greater detail, and different techniques can help you create different finishes.
Spraying
Air spraying is an ideal method for many types of industrial painting jobs. You’ll use a mist of paint or a fine spray through the process of atomization. You’ll find a number of different types of air sprayers on the market, and your choice will depend on your desired pressure level and pattern, among other differences. Air spraying generally creates a smoother finish, and it’s quite efficient and requires less physical exertion than rolling or brushing.
Airless sprayers are also an option. The main difference is that the airless sprayers atomize the paint at a higher pressure than air sprayers. With an airless sprayer, you’ll be able to cover larger areas with more efficiency, while also applying thicker coatings. This also helps you to avoid over-spraying. With this method, though, it becomes much more important to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) to avoid inhalation of the paint and to keep yourself protected during the job.
Dip coating
There are some types of industrial paint jobs that will have certain features or elements that require complete paint coverage. Dip coating is a method that involves dipping the item to be painted directly into the paint and letting it dry out. Obviously, this is only going to be an option for certain types of materials and elements—for example, you can’t take an entire wall and dip coat it.
